About

Welcome.

The ‘un’ page is a music blog dedicated to uncovering the uncommon by showcasing musical acts that are either unknown, unsung or underappreciated.

Mark Newman has been writing about music for many years, long enough to have written about U2 when most people were still thinking U2 was a spy plane, not a rock band. He has always had a passion for new music. He remembers buying the first AC/DC album on the day it was released in the U.S. in 1976 just as clearly as the night in 2018 when Aurora wowed a sellout crowd in a small club in Toronto (one of more than 1,500 shows he has seen over the years in dozens of cities, states, and countries).

Like many others, Mark thinks hearing an undiscovered artist is an act of pure joy. His musical tastes cover many genres and many different artists, which is not surprising given the unbelievable amount of great music out there that begs to be heard. He hopes to shine a light the work of underrated artists – musicians whose work has either gone unnoticed, unrewarded or underplayed.
